These innocent looking hanging woodworks are wall mounted, potentially allowing for the concealment of a deeper secret gun compartment between studs. The front panel slide or swing to reveal the secret hiding container behind. While they have the potential to fool intruders, most don’t have any kind of security.

Hidden Gun Safe Mirror

A large wall-mounted mirror that swings open to reveal a secure secret compartment large enough for rifles, handguns and other valuables. The content needs to be held vertically which can be tricky. However if the hidden safe mirror is deep enough, gun safe shelves can be installed for easy storage.

Pros Cons
  • Can be large
  • Doesn’t attract attention
  • Expensive
  • Installation if cut in the dry-wall
  • Might need to secure content vertically
  • Limited adequate locations

Gun Safe Picture Frame

A small blackboard, painting or picture frame safe hidden in plain sight. It usually conceals a pistol behind an unsecured hinged or sliding panel. The main limitation with a hidden gun picture frame is its size and thickness.

Pros Cons
  • Fit anywhere
  • Tends to be small (fit 1 gun only)
  • Vertical space is not stable even with magnets
  • Sliding the front or opening the back can be slow
  • Visible hinges are suspicious
  • Looks thick if not inserted inside the wall

Woodwork Gun Concealment Decor

This type of hidden gun storage wall decor is rather large and popularized by the John Wick movies. Often a wooden panel in the shape of a US flag or similar patriotic symbols slides to reveal the secret compartment.

Pros Cons
  • Large enough for many guns
  • Fit in many places
  • Expensive
  • Tends to be suspiciously thick
  • Vertical space requires customized foam
  • Sliding frame can be slow
  • A patriotic flag is likely a red flags for Burglars
  • Kids might see you opening it

In-Wall Air Vent Safe or Outlet Safe

A fake air vent or double plug socket with a magnetic cover concealing a hidden gun safe in wall. Since the cover can be easily removed, better hide it inside a closet. Some have a secret compartment made of metal and secured by a small lock for a bit more protection against curious kids.

Pros Cons
  • Discreet
  • Installation (cut in the dry-wall)
  • Metal casing is still easy to brute force
  • Lock is not of the secure kind
  • Inconvenient and slow to open
  • Vertical orientation not practical

Conclusion

While this type of diversion safe can blend in a variety of locations if chosen appropriately, their lack of security and slow opening are serious drawbacks when storing guns.

Concealment ★★★★☆ Security ★★☆☆☆ Accessibility ★★★☆☆
While they can be made to be realistic, it requires some extra DIY work. In practice most are suspiciously thick and tasteless.
Often made of wood or plastic without a security lock, they can’t protect their content if found.
These are more storage oriented and not made for a fast or secure access, however they can be install all around the house.
